Lynbrook High School, San Jose
Whether it is conducting research on the Hepatitis B virus, creating a new healthcare program (CarePlus) at the Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center to support patients with medical and financial difficulties, or leading her high school’s Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) club, Emily has continually sought to share her passion for the health care field with others. As the president of Lynbrook High School’s HOSA club, Emily made it her priority to lift the club from one that had been abandoned by its former president to one that would once again instill interest for health care among all students on campus. Despite a number of obstacles, she successfully relaunched the club to great success: record-high attendance at its first meeting post-relaunch, which only continued to grow with each new meeting until it became one of the biggest health clubs on campus. With her can-do spirit and a leadership perspective of always listening to the opinions of others, Emily aspires to bring this altruism into her future work as a physician who will treat her patients with love and genuine care.
